well, if your handy and not handsome, they can be a good shooting gun.
If you think you'll get 600$ worth shooting gun, out of a 169$ kit your dreaming.
Traditions bought the rights to the old cva splitstock kentucky a few years back.
The cva splitstock kentucky was called a "jukar" back in the 70's
There are tip's and tricks to make those old jukars shoot damn well!

Ya know? where are they listed at 169$ I think I might just do one again.

you can make a reasonable rifle from the kits .
depending on the time frame "if that concerns you at all " the two piece stock is also correct  for a late percussion gun . Whats not correct is the way the  they hold the stock together . There are a number of examples where the maker even used a silver plate to join the stock section  just as traditions  does and CVA  did ..
The main problem with  the traditions kits are their overall quality .
Locks are often  weak  . Their choice of wood for the stock is  IMO sub standard  and often  a lower quality even for this wood type .
You will also need to watch the lock inlet . I have seen a few where  it doesn’t allow the hammer to line up correctly on the nipple .
That all being said  IMO  if this is your first  rifle that you are looking at building , they make for a reasonable  experience . Some issues you can deal with , others ,,,,,,, well you just have to accept them

Here is a picture of a traditions Kentucky I  recently built for the Traditional muzzleloading Association drawing . That  will give you some idea of what can be done .
With this rifle the trigger guard came broken  thus I hand cast a new one . Also notice that the   I have  gave it a side plate as well as cast a new nose cap from pewter .
The wood of the stock also does not yield well to carving  and chips out easily so any caving you do will not be crisp so don’t try to get to intricate .

Get it! They are excellent shooting rifles and easy to tune in. Im getting 1 1/2" groups out of my kentucky flintlock shooting  a hornady .490 roundball and a 110 grains goex.

For get about Bowhunters Superstore. Sent them an email and they said because of eBay and paypal they had to quit selling them. I ask why it was in the catalog then and I quote"" because we can't go house to house and rip out that page"" I will not buy anything from them anymore. Sportsmans Guide has em for $179

WELL I BROKE DOWN AND ORDERED ONE TODAY. SHOULD GO GOOD WITH MY 32 ,45, 50 HAWKIN TYPES AND MY 45 AND 50 INLINES. I KNOW THAT 1 IN 66" TWIST IS FOR PATCH AND BALL BUT WITH THE LONGER BARREL WILL THEY SHOOT SOMETHING LIKE A LEE REAL BULLET OR A  MINNI HALFWAY DECENT?

Mine shoots a 295 grain powerbelt out to 50 yards pretty well. Anything over 50 yards is a lucky hit. I honestly would just stick to a PRB.  Theres also the PA conical  or the Ball-et you can give a try. They really are sweet shooters. I polished the lock on mine today and its so much smoother now.

I was at bass pro yesterday and they had them in their sale for $165 the pistol and the Kentucky rifle. I found them and I still haven't made up my mind if I want to order it yet
