bedding the forend

Hello,

I read the article in the FAQ about RTV bedding the forend.  I have a question about the bedding  process in general.

Why is only a small section of the forend bedded?  Why not bed the whole forend?

It seems to me that if you bedded the whole forend, you could rest the rifle on any portion of the forend and not just at the hinge pin and get good accuracy.  But, I don't know much about these things so that is why I was asking.  Any information on this would be appreciated.

All rifles are a little different and will "like" different setups.
Some shoot best out of the box.
Others do well with an O-ring.
The RTV bedding in faqs has shown to improve accuracy in many handis though.

I am working on fully bedding a synthetic fore arm but Deer season has that project on hold.

RTV bedding it like I did I can shoot anywhere off the the forearm...I didn't do it full to the rear because it is free floated under it..including on the forearm spacer as well...I remove a lot of wood in the barrel channel...and didn't see any major improvements by filling the channel completely...You may...that's the beauty of using the RTV silicon...it is easily removed...I suggest you experiment a little and see what works best for you..
