Hey Quick! I just ordered my Ultra V Lam T-hole.
« on: November 08, 2007, 11:02:56 AM »
Just placed the order from Lipsey's should see it next week. Just need to figure out what scope to attach. I have a 6X24 Mil-dot on my .243 maybe that would be a good choice for this rifle also. Any advice from the masses? I believe this will be like the one that Quick posted a pic of. This will be Handi #6 but I'm not going to try and catch-up with you Quick.
Regards to all - F50 ;)

Good choice, congrats! I have a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40SF BDC on mine, works pretty good, but I'm still working loads for it.

Congratulations - I bet it looks puuurdy. Are you going to use this for hunting, varminting and what cartridge did you get chambered in? For general all round shooting I think a 12X to 14X power is plenty and buy the best scope you can afford. Now that I said that...I just bought a Mueller APV for a 22 Hornet and a Mueller 8 X 25 X44mm Tactical for a Remington 700. I could have bought "better" scopes, but I am a cheap skate and I hate to pay for more than I need.

Tim posted while I was typing and did not see the pic. 243 it is then. Tim made a good choice in scopes. I have been trying to talk myself into one of those for a while now, but I am such a cheap skate.

I gotta admit, I wouldn't have bought the Nikon at it's regular price of ~$350, got it on sale at Midway for $250 a while back.  I've only bought one scope over $300 in my life, and that wasn't much over, but I'm pretty much like LaOtto, can't see spending what I don't need and the Muellers are very well priced for what you get, which is a lot. I have 6 Muellers, all great scopes, but they were all purchased before their last price increase which was substantial. The two LaOtto mentioned are very good buys, the APV is the scope I helped develop at RFC, is very well liked there, even by those that use em on medium bore centerfires, so that tells you a lot about it as far as durability, a lot of scope for $115 shipped. ;)

Hey guys mine is in 22-250 and hopefully will have the fluted barrel. I'm looking at BSA 6X24 side focus Mil-dot. I have an old school(AO on the objective) BSA 6X24 on my UV fluted.243 and like it. My other thought is to put a BSA Sweet 243 on my .243 and move the Mil-dot to the 22-250. I don't pay big bucks for scopes either but I will pay $100 to $150 for a decent one. I have a Nikon Prostaff with BDC on my 35 Whelen and it is very clear. I have the Truglo on the .308 and it is OK but not as clear as the BSA or NIkon. This is going to be a Varmint gun primarily so I'm leaning towards the 6X24 side focus BSA. Always willing to listen to others opinions comes from spending my days as a Judge I guess. :D :D :D

I know I just said I bought a 8 X 25 X44mm Mueller, but I think it is way too much power even for a varmint gun. I wish I could have gotten the same scope with a max of 16X or 18X. I find my self shooting at 10X or 12X even off of bi-pods when actually in the field shooting. I find the higher powers just too shaky and have more confidence/hit ratios at the lower powers. I just think the higher powered scopes are for bench work. I shot a 222 for years with a straight 10X scope and really never felt I did not have enough power. I shot sub 1/2 groups with it on a regular basis. I also shot black birds at 250 yards with it. So a higher power scope really does not gain you that much, the clarity of the scope and sharpness of the image means more. Just my 2 cents.

I have also been thinking about the 8x25 Mueller for the 225winchester handi I am building but thought maybe the 8 might be a little much but I also have a couple of 6x18 that I don't think is enough but who has something AO in between for mueller type dollars. maybe 6x24 maybe good for 22-250 and the 225? Ok guys I ordered the BSA 6X24 Mil dot with side focus. I think this will be the best for this rifle. Thanks for all the input.
Good shootin - F50

You have to make choices, and no one can make them for you. I hope it works out OK too. Good Luck
