Filled my doe tag Saturday morning with the CVA OE in 7mm-08. Doe jumped out in front of me about 25 feet, and I couldn't pass it up. Shot at an angle went through the right rear quarter and she went about 10 yards and laid down. 140 grain Winchester super X. Of course I had my scope cranked up to 6x (2-7) looking for a longer shot when she jumped out. Might have made a better shot if I had it down to 2X. Filled my 1st tag anyhow. No pics.
When I sighted it in at the local range it was sight in day and hectic. I really wasn't sure that the rifle was dialed in to my satisfaction. When I moved my stand yesterday to a better spot I set up a pop bottle (24 oz plastic) at about 100 yards. 1st shot was high. Dialed the scope down 3 clicks and the second shot was right on. Killed that pop bottle dead.
Got one more tag to fill by Sunday, and I saw 4 deer up close last night in my stand, passed on a big doe, still looking for a buck to shoot.
All in all I am impressed with the way this rifle shoulders, the low amount of recoil I am feeling with this round, and now I have high confidence in the accuracy of the rifle/scope combination. So far so good for my first centerfire rifle hunt.
