Savage ML2 Rings the Gong
« on: November 12, 2007, 12:16:42 PM »
I was helping a friend sight in his TC Omega, and I brought along my ML2.  He was shooting a 240g Shockwave (?) over 100 grains of Pyrodex, and I was shooting 43g of SR 4759 under a 250g SST in a harvester short.  The gongs were placed at 50 yards, and 100 yards.

In the 50 yarder, the 240 passed through but never made it out the far side.  The SST, cruising along at about 2250 fps, passed  straight through, and kept going...

At 100 yards the SST had only an entry, but no exit.  Still more then enough for a clean hit on a whitetail.  I don't know what the 240 would have done, as it was getting too dark to continue.

According to T/C the Omega, loaded with 3 pyrodex pellets, will launch a 250gr Shockwave at 2,200 + ft/sec. That would make both guns ballistiically equivalent. That is unless the Savage could safely take even heavier charges.
