NRA Instructor Needs Your Assistance!!!!
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:36:45 PM »
Gentlemen and Ladies:

I am a NRA Basic Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun and Washington State Hunter Safety Instructor. Ammunition identification is an integral part of the curriculum of all of these courses. Basically we have the students find the ammunition that matches their firearm from a pile of "dummy rounds" that contain a mix of different ammuntion types.

To make our "dummy rounds" we use a case with a spent primer and seat a bullet. They do not contain any powder.

I need your help, I reload for .204, .260 Remington, and 30-06. I am looking for those willing to load up 5 "dummy rounds" of other common (and uncommon) hunting rounds and send them to me for use during the courses that my team teaches. Both rifle and pistol calibers are needed.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you are willing to help out my team, you can email me at ejb@ecgmc.com with what calibers you can provide, and I will give you a mailing address. I will also let you know if someone else has already committed to a particular caliber.

I truly appreciate any and all that are willing to give a hand in ensuring the safety and future of our shooting sport.

Well, I have some additional brass and a few bullets available for your class.  Some .270 Win, .280 Rem, some 8x63 Swedish, .243 Win, .308 Win, and problably others that could easily be mistaken for the correct ammo.  Let me know what else you need for your class and I'll be glad to assist.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.

Asking for 5 of everything is asking a lot don't you think?

Plus, if you really wanted to make it realistic, wouldn't you want good primers and not used primers.

All a kid would have to do is look to see which ones were spent ammo and which ones were live ammo to figure out which ones were the ones for their guns.

Plus - this makes me wonder - what are they teaching these kids in school these days.

All it takes to figure out which ammo goes with which gun is to look at the headstamp.

Trying to confuse them by presenting them with odd ammo will only make it worse, because you should never mix ammo - neither while hunting or while target shooting.

So telling kids to go through a pile of shells and pick which one fits their gun is not a good idea.

You would be better off to make ammo boards and put them in order according to size from .222 to 416 Rigby.
