Moving to AL

Howdy all.  I'm moving to AL in August.  I grew up in TN and have lived in GA for several years and most recently LA for the last five years.  I like to deer hunt and love to crow and hog hunt along w/ a little coyote hunting thrown in on the side.   Anyone here live near there or hunt FT Rucker proper?  I have looked at the hunting regs and it appears that I will be able to hunt hogs year round.  The hunting prospects look pretty good from the posted literature, but I would greatly appreciate any first hand hunting experience anyone migh have to offer.  Thanks much.

Tom,
Very nice deer!  Have you ever hunted on FT Rucker?  Do you know if there are there any paper mills that lease land in your area (in case the hunting opportunities at Rucker are not that great).  Thanks much for your info.

I'm in Ashford, east of Dothan.  Haven't hunted Rucker, but opportunity is pretty good, I think.  Pretty sure you have to have your weapons registered and all, but if you don't mind that and vehicle checks, it's probably ok.  Supposed to be a lot of hogs out there.

Dixon Lumber Company in Eufaula  leases a LOT of land in the area.But then, I believe that they own most available land here!
The place we're leasing is almost $12 an acre now, and going up every year.

I haven't hunted on Ft. Rucker since my Cousin moved from there, many moons past. You might want to get in touch with a fellow named Moe Armstrong, who lives in Ozark. He may can steer you in the right direction.

Hey guys,
I made it to Rucker on the 1st of August.  I shot this boar this weekend with my TC Pro Hunter in 7MM Mag using a  Barnes 120 Triple Shock Bullet.  Shot him at a distance of about 25 yards and he dropped in his tracks.  Have not seen many deer on Rucker, but there seems to be plenty of hogs!  The crow hunting is great as well.  Enjoy!

Maybe one day I'll get to go hog hunting. I have some handguns that are up to the task, but finding time and location is a witch!

I hunt Rucker.  I've seen a few deer this year but haven't gotten a good shot yet with the bow.  Just bought a rifle.  I plan on hog and turkey hunting as well. Give me a shout if you ever want to go.

I saw a few deer on rucker this year and harvested a few does.  I just started seeing scrapes after the first of the year.  The deer around here must rut  really late or thay are in a second rut and I missed the first one.  I tried bow hunting when it opened on rucker, but did not see anything at all.  I think deer season closes the end of this month so I'll be back onto the hogs again until turkey season.  Where do you dive around here?

I've seen a few nice ones bow hunting so far but couldn't get good shots. Got a nice five point (160lbs) with a rifle north of hwy 27.

Area 10 has a lot of hogs, if its open. I saw a 500lbs hog in there back in Oct but he was 100yds out and I had the bow. At first I thought it was a guy on a 4 wheeler.  I think they are gonna clear cut it soon, unfortunately. 

I saw a ton of fresh scrapes this morning.  They usually rut about the 16th to 20th. I just hope they keep the SERE course areas open till then. I'm gonna go pretty much everyday till the end of the season, rain or shine. I may go to Eufalla this weekend, its bow only though and the Barbour cty restriction applies.

The areas I hunt the most are north of 27, but I've not got around to area 10.  The biggest buck I shot this year dressed out right at 100 lbs.  I harvested him out of area 4.  I've seen lost of hogs in area 3 as well.  It is funny that I've not seen any hogs deer hunting this year, but have seen deer while hog hunting.  How far of a drive is it to Eufala?  I've been up by that way on my way to Benning last year, but I did not notice a WMA, other than the lake.  I'll more than likely have to go to a funeral this weekend, but hope to hunt a few scrapes later next week if the rut is still on.

Depending on your route it's about 45 miles or so to Eufaula. The WMA is in Clayton.....
