SPR18

I have a friend that once had the NEF in 223 rem that casings would get stuck in the chamber after being fired. Ive seen alot of other posts that state the same problem. You would think that a company that reputable would not have this problem. theres always going to be defective products for anything but im sure that they ship these 223s out knowingly that there may be problems and thinking some will be returned while some people may just accept what they have. . I have heard that the newer NEFs have different ways of extracting the rounds but i am still put off by them though. Overall the metal and wood for the SPR 18 looks pretty nice. I believe the Spartan is a good value based on the overall fit and finsh, wood stocks, open sights, and chrome lined barrels which NEF s do not have. Its been a while since i have seen my friends NEF so i cant really compare the NEF with the spartan in the fit and finish department but ill check out a NEF to get a comparison with the Spartan 18.

Have your friend visit the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum FAQs here if he still has problems with stuck brass, it's an easy fix if he doesn't want to return it for repair on H&R's dime. Stuck brass in 2006 and later H&Rs is a moot point, they started switching over to mechanical extractors in 2004, so it's pretty much a non-issue, but most H&R owners prefer the old ejectors and wish H&R would offer either as an option or switch back to ejectors.

As far as the SPRs, if you're content with the few chamberings they offer and not being able to add another barrel for ~$100,  they may have their appeal. But if a person prefers to buy US Made products, the SPR isn't an option. I don't know what kind of CS Remington offers on them, but I do know for a fact that H&R CS is second to none and stands behind their products well after their stated warranty period. ;)

I have a New England .223 that jambs brass once in awhile.Found the cause to be having too much 3 in 1 residue left in the extractor area.Only use this oil because of the synthetic stock.Ground hogs and coyotes around here wish I had junked the rifle.
