tried a scope on one of my revolvers for the first time today
« on: November 10, 2007, 03:38:31 PM »
I put a bushnell 2-6x32 trophy on my Ruger Bisley Blackhawk hunter 44 mag because I have been intrigued by trying one for a while...
tried open sights and various red dots and will keep my S&W 686 357 mag open sights for the times I am hunting with a rifle but want a pistol just in case something close comes in.. when I am dedicated pistol hunting (especially from a stand) I think I will be using this setup

using inexpensive Magtech 240g JSPs I zeroed in at 75 yards and then shot an honest 2.5" group extreme spread with 6 shots
a few of the shots were almost touching

that should work on deer or hogs :)

pretty cool

I don't know if you have shot optics on a pistol much, but one thing that will really help you is to focus on your target and bring the scope into your line of vision.  You'll never be able to hit anything fast if you try to find the target with your scope.  It's the same principle as shooting a rifle with optics.

yep..

I have been trying to teach that to my oldest son (10) with a rifle
don't look for the target (or deer) in the scope, find it, keep focused on it and bring the gun up..
and this year he's getting the reduced field of view and  increased movement that comes with having the magnification up

You did well to get the 32 mm scope.  The Bushnell on my Encore is a 28 mm (I think!) and when the sun goes down it starts to get more and more difficult to see my target.  It isn't long before its worthless, I'm look'n for a bigger tube.
