I would look on amazon and see what used ones are selling for there. I would guess probably around $50-$75

Your book is worth $40 - $50. I can't be more precise without holding it in my hands and looking it over. If it had the dust jacket it would be anywhere from $50 - $100 depending on condition. Condition is everything w/ book values, and with modern books the dust jacket counts for roughly half of a books value to a collector. Apart from it's lack of a DJ, the book you've got there appears to be in excellent condition, though it's kind of hard to get a real good look at it from the pictures...

The one Swampman found on ebay is not at all just like yours from what I can tell. It's an ex-library book, or discard, which makes it absolutely worthless as far as collector value goes. The value it holds is as a reading copy, because it is a relatively hard to find book.

Your copy looks like a hell of a find for $2, and a great gift. Enjoy it.

Dang! And I always thought the value of a book was in what it said.

I couldn't agree more, to be honest... but I run a bookstore, and have dealt in used/rare books for almost a decade, and the fact is that there are plenty of people out there who will pay top dollar for books that they will never so much as open.

If you want to read "The Grapes of Wrath" you can do that for a couple bucks at the local used bookstore, or for free at the library. However if you want to own a signed, first edition copy in good shape, it's gonna set you back roughly $25K, even though the beat up, used, paperback reprint and the signed first edition in fine condition say the same damn thing inside.

As a reader, I feel a book's true value is in what lies within. As a bookseller, things are a little different...
