Browning Buck Mark problem
« on: February 14, 2007, 01:58:53 AM »
I have a "NIB" Browning Buck Mark Silhouette handgun.

The mag drops every time the gun is fired.

Yes, I cleaned gun prior to shooting and it may be somethng that I have caused.

Anybody have a suggestion for this Buck Mark newbie?

Thanks for any help or direction pointing.

I "think" this may be a FRENCH pistol. ::)  Does a little white flag protrude when the safety is engaged?

Sorry, just the first thought that came to mind when I read your problem.  Don't have any answers and hope someone can shed some light on the issue for you.

Roudy,

Naw, this is not a French pistol...this gun has been fired.

A French pistol will have never been fired and dropped only once.

I don't really have an answer either, but wonder if you have a second magazine, and if so do both of them drop?  That will help you find out if the problem is in the gun or the magazine.

We have two Buckmarks in the family and so far neither of them have done this.  Let us know what you find out.

Keith,

Yes I have several new mags, and they all do this.  Mags are fully inserted and they come out during recoil...?

I shot this gun off of a bench at 50 feet using the original iron sights and got a 10 shot group that can be covered with a nickle...the gun shows great promise.

We really like ours, and I think you will too when you get to the bottom of the problem.

My son's gun leaded up like crazy when he first got it.  After a couple hundred rounds the bullets were keyholeing into the target.  It went back to Browning and came back with a new barrel in about a week (no charge of course).  You may want to send it back for them to fix.

I bought mine first, and had gone to buy a Ruger Mk.II.  The Buckmark trigger was by far the best of the autos at the sportshop, so it went home with me.

Have fun with it!

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!

The local gun store/shooting range let me remove the magazine latch from one of thier used Buck Marks and install into my gun.  The problem went away.  I now need to order a new latch, Brownells has one for $4 but I will try Browning Customer Service to see how they treat me.

Thanks all for your assistance.

Why not try the shop you purchased the handgun from? It may say something about the shop by the way they treat their customers.

I purchased the gun via gunbroker.

The latch is a factory defect.

I can deal with the factory or pay the price to Brownell's and respect the factory service of Smith and Wesson all the more.

Just wanted to share the answer to my problem so that it may help someone else.

Has the gun been fired or is it NIB?

It was new in box.

It has seen about 300 rounds now.  All is fixed.

Crud,
I have been looking for a second one and was hoping to get it from you cheap.
I had a scout scope on mine for a while and want to get another to do it again.  Had to remove it as too many people complained about my scores and the unorthodox shooting position.
Was it the spring holding in the mag release?
