Painting silver scope black ...
« on: November 15, 2007, 03:18:48 PM »
I just came into an extra Simmons scope that I want to paint black. Can someone tell me what kind of paint works best for this? Also, any advice on the do's and dont's would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I have never painted a scope but have painted a few rifles. I have had great luck with the Krylon fusion paint. The best advice I can give is very light coats. Take your time and you should be ok. Just be sure not to get any on the lens. I would either tape them off or maybe spread some Vasline on them. The paint will not stick to it and could be cleaned up when the paint dries. I don't think the Vasline will efect the lens but you might want to ask around. Another thing don't mount it for at least a week. Let the paint cure real good before doing so. Dale

Thank you for your help Dale ... I'll try the paint you recommend. I got the scope for almost nothing ... a Simmons Aetec ... so i thought I might try something new. I might even try a camo job.

I would wonder how you would paint it around the adjustment rings etc... so it looked good.
