I have an encore 30-06 with a 26" stainless barrel and it loves the 150gr bullets.  I haven't found a 180gr bullet that'll compare to a 150gr in terms of accuracy out of my barrel.  I hunted with 150gr factory coreloks because I didn't have time to work up a load before the hunt and the factory rounds shot well under MOA at 100 yards.

Ted I don't think that the 30-06 is all that fussy like other calibers once I put a new scope on every thing I shot through it was fine and around 1inch groups.I just wanted to shoot around 3000 FPS and believe I have accomplished that. I use to shoot 150 Winchester silver tips, when I could not get them I used core locs They hit within an inch of the Winchester's out of my Browning BAR. Good luck hunting

stanW,
I'm just now starting to practice more at longer ranges.  My encore 30-06 barrel is in the corner right now, but after muzzleloader season gets over it'll go right back on.  My last load development for it was using 150gr barnes triple shocks over IMR 4350.  I increased the powder by .5gr increments until I was way over the maximum in any book and I physically couldn''t get any more powder in it.

Strangly enough, I didn't get any excessive pressure signs while at the range with this experiment.  I was carefull and worked my way up, but I was amazed that I didn't even get overly flat primers.  My next reloading session with the 30-06 will be to load up a lot of 150 gr bullets just off the lands for my 30-06 and see start working my way back up the pressure ladder.  I want sub MOA groups out of this rifle so I can use it for longer range target shooting/practice.  I've got some SST's to try out, hopefully mine do as well as yours did.

teddy the SST's are devistating on deer and I may have to back the load down as there is to much meat destroyed 192 yrds front shoulder shot lost both shoulders neck and part of back strap no hart left my boy shot the doe 143 pounds and loved the fact that there was no tracking awsome load.

I still haven't had a chance to load up my 150gr SST's but I am looking forward to it soon I hope.  I 've got plenty of rounds to try loading up for my 30-06, but it's been lower on the priority list since I can't use that rifle in my state for deer hunting.  I'm hoping to find a load that I can start shooting longer distances at the range with.
