Winchester White Box Speed

I have a 223 Remington that shoots the Winchester 45 grain hollow point very well. The Winchester advertisement indicates that it is traveling about 3600 fps at the muzzle but somewhere I have read that some of you guys have shot them over a chronograph and they aren't going that fast. Have any of you tested these for speed and if so how fast were they? I haven't seen any of these on the shelf for quite some time and plan on trying to come up with a duplicate load. Cabela's have the Winchester bullets in bulk.
Thanks
Jack

I tend to think that manufacturers fps claims are kind of like the auto industries hp claims. They sound good but never seem to measure up.

I have to agree. I read somewhere that they were tested but didn't measure up to the advertised speed, I just don't remember how fast they were going.

I would think that if you get some Winchester brass, 748 powder and Winchester SR primers
you could work up to the same point of aim and skip the chronograph.

In theory if the same weight bullet is going the same speed, then it will have the same point of impact at the same distance. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the viewpoint.

That's a nice theory. I hope your gun knows it.
If it hits the same spot who cares how fast.

Trapper-Jack, it ain't true. Although the same weight bullet leaves the muzzle at the same velocity, bullet shape/ballistic coefficient will make a difference in where it impacts down range.

I hadn't considered the different shaped bullet would fly a little differently. Thanks for the thought.
