I wouldn't say its normal. It won't be bad but sometimes you will find a load that works and looks like you have found one. It will vary a bunch from gun to gun and especially in muzzle loaders.  ;)

just a quick update. dad killed a 300-400 pound wild boar today at dark, around 75 yards. i was picking on him and asked him if he could have made that shot with his side lock and he said no it would have been too dark. his eye sight is not what it used to be. the scope helped alot. ;D

Sounds good. I really like Bushnell Optics. Does his have Firefly? My eyes aren't good at all and it helps me a bunch.

here is something funny that happened with this gun. after dad shot the boar  he went home and cleaned the rifle and reload and went hunting the next afternoon he didnot see anything so he went today to discharge the rifle. he called me and said the rifle dry fried. i told him how to get the bullet out. he called me back and told me some how he forgot to put the powder in the rifle in the first place. i told him, as serious as i could at the time, it hard to shoot without powder. priceless
