EMF (Rossi) 92 help please!

I am having some feeding problems with my ole 92. It will not feed .38's at all except for the last one. It will load .357's without any problems at all. I guess a common problem. However, when I first got it it loaded anything I could feed it fine, Now it is getting finicky. The only changes made were to change the springs and clean up the action  a bit. But even after that it worked. It has only been since the last time I cleaned it that it will not work.
    It looks as if the second cartridge in line protrudes out of the magazine and maybe interferes with lifter,or it the next shell inline comes out of the magazine and slams into the shell being loaded and knocks it out of whack, and then when it lifts the shell to the cartridge guides it will stand straight up and jam it up. It matters not if I do it fast or slow it is all the same. One of the fixes published is to shim the right cartridge guide a bit to close the tolerance a hair to prevent this, but that did not make a differance. Any ideas?

If you removed the left cartridge guide and put the spring in backwards, it would produce the problem you describe.  The concave side of the spring should go against the frame, like this: l),
not like this: l(.  I hope this helps clear up your problem, because you have a fine rifle, and it's getting close to hunting season.

OK I took it apart again. The left guide spring was in correctly. I took a closer look at what was happening. When I operate the lever fast, the cartridge loading doesn't move. It is as if the next round protruding slightly from the magazine is just blocking it from lifting. If I do it slowly, it starts to lift normally,  but the next round comes sliding out fast enough to hit the lifting round and causing it to tip straight up. Hmmm.

have you checked the shell stop  on the magazine tube? I had that problem on an old 94 I owned, that was the fix. Only one round should be in the receiver at any time.

I was just watching how my 92 works and the cartridge lifter controls the next cartridge in the magazine.  I agree with Foggy that the problem is most likely the cartridge lifter, now that you have eliminated the guide.  It sounds like something is binding the lifter at the bottom of its travel.  The spring change should not have caused the problem.  Since it occurred since the last cleaning, I will guess that you introduced something at that time. My best guess is that you may have gotten a piece of shaved lead somehow.  Lead will mold itself to a rough spot and may not be obvious, but can still cause binding.  Another problem might unburned powder.  Just a couple of guesses, but made as a result of painful experience.

Tighten up the loading gate screw.
