If you have a harbor freight in your town, you can get the small cabinet and some glass beads.  borrow an air compressor and you are in business.

Unless you have some experience with a bead blaster you should not attempt to do it yourself!  If the firearm is not prepared properly, and you are not aware of what you are doing you can ruin the gun.

Before undertaking this task, consult you local gunsmith, or if there is one in your area, talk to a plating shop manager.  I would bet you can get the job done by a professional as cheap, or cheaper than the cost of equipment and supplies to do it your self.

Oh well, my stainless single-six came out absolutely fine.  First and only one I've done.

I found a local smith that said he would do it for $40.00 that sounds alot better than the $150 S&W wants. MS did you have to completely disassemble your single six? Justin

Cost me $50 to have Wayne York bead blast and blue a 32" 45-120 barrel, shipping would be on top of that. If you contact him, tell him I sent ya, Justin. ;)

Yes, I completely disassembled the revolver.  Stuffed papertowel into the barrel to protect the rifling and into the cylinders to protect the chambers.  All in all it came out very well; similar in texture to the MNP's velvet hone finish.

going the gunsmith is much more cost effective if only doing one firearm.  A friend of mine had gotten into applying various finishes to his firearms and the purchase was more easily justified.

I was wondering if anyone was going to suggest hand rubbing with a certain grit of wet dry buffing paper or compound... that would be the cheapest and do it urself down and dirty way to go, but I was just assuming from other posts on other threads... if any one knows what is wrong with that idea, just for the knowlege imparted I would appreciate the information being posted..

let us know how it comes out... my little blackhawk has a soft finish on it so I am interested in how yours are going to look...

To post photos, you have two choices, click the "Additional Options" below the reply window to browse to the photos on your PC and select them. The other choice is to sign up at a free pic hosting site like www.myhostedpics.com  then upload them there, copy the pic link, then paste it with your text in a reply.
