Peep Sight for a Revolver
« on: November 20, 2007, 02:50:24 PM »
I have a 5" Smith 629 that I use to shoot pins. I am a big fan of peep sights instead of v grove or square grove rear sights. So, this may be a dumb question...but does anyone know of a Smith who makes a rear peep sight for a Smith? I've looked at my Williams peep sight apertures and it would seem to me that these or something similar to them could be silver soldered to a properly prepared rear S&W sight.

Any ideas or direction?

Thanks.

Dave

Take a piece of beer can, put a hole in it and super glue it to your rear sight and see if it would work for you.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

Now Larry.....the last time I superglued anything....halfway thru the superglue job I had to go to the boys room. It took months before I could go out in public again without looking like I was pervert. :P

Thanks Rangr44. The meds do help....well....except for that finger twitch side effect thing. Most times now when I go to the range, it clears out pretty quick and I have it all to myself. I dunno why though?? :)

Glad your meds are working pretty much...

They used to sell a sticky dot of paper for putting on shooting glasses with a hole in it, like a huge peep sight. No idea if they are still available, but you could work with those dots they sell in paper supply places and drug stores and...

You show considerable wisdom. When you look hard, all sights are based on geometric relationships allowing light/sight picture thru. In strong light, the finer sights can be useful, but for speed and lesser light conditions, the sights with alot more light coming thru--wider spaces  are much more useful/accurate.

On rifles for dangerous game they call this sort of huge "peep" a "ghost ring." Jack O'Connor wrote of taking the finer rifles that came with peeps, unscrewing the disk with the tiny hole and putting it in a drawer and just using the outer ring as his sight... luck.

I Googled the other day, and came across the Millett web site. They make a rear blade sight for Smith's and Ruger's that you can buy different styles of blades INCLUDING a peep sight with two different aperture sizes.

Check it out http://www.millettsights.com/index.php/catalog_2007/series_100  Scroll down the page just a bit and you will find the blade options.
