Small game hunters ?

Hi all,got my deer butchered and in the freezer.Now I could still shoot another with my bow,but I really havent got the room in the freezer so I'm going to take a break and hunt squirrels and rabbits and maybe turkey with my little .32 Kentucky Pedersoli.Then in the late flintlock season after Christmas I can hunt deer again and will have more room in the freezer. 8)Who else loves smallgame blackpowder hunting?

 I did until I shot a gray squirrel and hit it too far back. of courses, that was before I discovered that I needed glasses. Strung guts out and some of the body fluids got into the meat and ruined it. I shot it with a .36 Pedersoli Blue Ridge rifle, which I sold and really miss now.

Late flint season?  A keystoner?

I use a Ruger old army (cap and ball revolver) for wood chucks, and a 24 ga flint fowler for most small game birds.  My 32 CVA squirrel gun was stolen and I miss it.  Pa's idiot rule of 40 cal or less for muzzleloader small game rilfes keeps me from using a special 45 target rifle I built special for things like squirrel.    I do have a little 32 in line with scope that does the job, but it is too much like shooting a cartridge gun.

Uh-huh,I'm a Keystoner. Benaiah,I aim for the head although I did the same thing as you,hit a squirrel in the neck and out the wazoo.Ruined the meat.It just aint no challenge with a shotgun or rimfire rifle though.

I like to "bark" squirrel. I true big game hunter in the mid-west forest area, will find grey squirrel annoying. As you sit in your stand, they'll sit 15 feet away and squawk at ya all day long telling the whole forest that they are P.O.'d at you!
 So I'll take my .54, sit real nice like, till they come scampering about, and when they hug a branch ya shoot the branch just under the head.
 The concussion from the bark exploding near the head usually does the job. No meat ruined. I've done that for so many years that now when squirrel see me with the .54, they just climb down and let me hit'm with a stick. no sense wasting powder!

 Now rabbit, that's another story,,,,

For years I was a small gamer.

I used a 32 flintlock for squirrel, rabbit, groundhog, coon, and any vermin that needed dead.

I even tried the old flinter at a dump but my Pop would hit the rats with his 22 and spoil my shot.

Never tried for barn pigeons, not that the 32 would not do the job, the farmers did not like holes in the tin roof.

I enjoyed the shooting year round and it help keep my eyes ready for deer season.

Yep,it keeps ya sharp.But shooting in a barn is a fire hazzard for sure.LOL

I have harvested many gray squirrels,a few  dove and  rabbits and 5 turkey with a cva trapper ml shotgun I have not shot it in a few years but that's about to change I'm going to clean her up and get ready . I can't hunt small game this coming week because of deer gun season but after that  my new beagles and  a smoke pole sounds like fun
