Thinking of getting FA
« on: November 28, 2007, 12:26:19 PM »
Well..I have just saved(hidden) enough to buy myself a new FA.  I am getting one in .44 magnum.  I am trying to decide which barrel length to get and I am torn between the 6 or 7.5 length.  I plan on using it for hunting deer and target shooting.  I like the 6 inch barrel since it may be a bit easier to carry afield..any thoughts?

I can't tell any difference in handiness between the two but do see a difference in how accurate I am with the 7.5" over the 6". But with my eyes at about 8-3/8" to 9.5" is when a BIG difference shows up. Buy whichever trips your trigger the most you'll not see enough difference to really be concerned about in handiness or accuracy with irons.

Six is NOT a standard length and will cost you extra. Standard is 5.5" then 7.5" and I think 4-3/4" then it moves to the 10" I think. One of these days I'm gonna hafta get one one of them long ones.

I think Sgtshultzy1 is talking about a Model 83 in .44 Mag, not the M97 in .44 Spcl, so the 6" would be a standard length barrel.

Sqtshultzt1, As soon as you said "deer hunting" the bbl length should be 7 1/2" especially if you want to use a scope. I own a FA model 83 44 mag with a 7 1/2 bbl and a factory 3 lb trigger and I love it. I liked it so much that I had FA build me a Model 83 in a 22lr in the same specs. (my squirrel) handgun. I do have scopes on both handguns. I hope this helps. Rod in Pa.

Thanks for the replies...I think you have convinced me to get the 7.5.  My eyes aren't getting any younger and the extra sight plane will surely help..Shultzy
