Alaska Q & A
« on: May 27, 2007, 02:28:21 PM »
Well I was informed of this site by a Sourdough so thank you to him!  That being said I will monitor on a weekly basis to assist all concerning questions about Alaska Fishing.  I run a full guide / camp services as well as an inflatable store in Fairbanks.  We fish the Gulkana, Klutina, Chena, Kenai, Willow Creek, Montana Creek, and the Chulitna Systems.  I have also fished the Alaska Pen as well as the North Slope.  I may not be able to answer all your questions but will do my best to assist you with any questions you may have about methods, and locations.  If I can not provided you accurate data I will make all attempts to provide you a source that can.

Hope one and all had a very wonderful weekend.

Tight Lines and Best Wishes

Well BlueMoose, I noticed you started this several months ago with no responses. I'll break the ice. Don't really need any advise but I'll just say hello up there to a fellow Alaskan. Regards, Byron

I always wanted to fish Alaska.  When I was young, I didn't have the money.  Now that I have the money, I wrecked my body years ago. I don't think I could take it anymore.

Captain, What are your physical limitations? I bet there is some fishing you can do in Alaska. Our state is so large and the terrain varied its not all real physical.

Give us and idea of what your limitations are, and well go from there. Regards, Byron

Ain't that the truth!!  You can go out on charters, and as long as you have one good reeling arm, you can catch all the fish you like!!

And old familiy friend of ours had a business, called "Bob's walkabout flyfishing."  I think everything I saw him guiding, he was taking a nap on the bank while the customer was fishing.  Of course he took care of all the flies, making sure they knew what they were doing, and setting up all the gear...  but he sure didn't travel too far on foot, and neither he nor the client worked too hard.  ;D

And it's not all fishing crab like on the TV.

Heck, if you can climb onto a bank twice a day, you could make a five/six/ten day down the gulkana and fish from the boat, or sitting down on shore all day and have not a trouble in the world doing so.  The good thing about Alaska - when you are tired of fishing, it's cause you are tired of catching fish.

I have a bad neck and back.  The neck is worse than the back.  Imagine not being able to look up. Just straight ahead.   I get around well.  I am no whiner. I just know I have limitations.  My duck hunting days are over.
