Hi There,
Yep I had to grind the top of the bolt handle in scallop to clear the eye-bell of the Bushnell it now wears. Carefully done and re-blued it looks like it was meant to be
here it is:-
And how it looks now with the Bushnell:-
Now the powders I have worked with mainly are H4895 and Reloader 15, starting with loads from the artricle in Big Bore rifles by Wolfe publishing I had to increase the powder charges to get case obturarion in my rifle as I had smoked necks and protruding primers. Now I have never chronographed any of my loads as I don't have a chrongraph. Looking at my records I see that i ahve not loaded any since March 2003
I moved to where I live now in June 2005 and since I had lived here the Police have been obstructive adn a lot of my rifles are listed for collection only and cannot be shot the 9.3x57 is one of these
.
The closest bullet I had to what your asking about I suppose is the RWS 247 Grain Cone Point, in MY rifle I used a load of 50.0 Grains of Rel 15 with a Rem 9 1/2 primer in a Norma case (9.3x57) loaded to a COL of 3.126". The is safe in my rifle but you will need to reduce it and work up in yours. This target was shot using 49.0 grains of Reloader 15 at 50 yards:-
sorry but I don't have ant photos of how the 50.0 grain load shot
but for comparison here is a target shot the same day with some Norma factory ammunition using the 286 grn Alaska bullet:-
As for the 9.3x62 well yes it's better, due mainly to be more available
I doubt any beast shot with either would know the difference, given the chance I would take mine after Elk (Wapiti) or Moose, I can dream after all
Oh I didn't point out that my particular rifle has and "oversize" barrel as the grooves in mine measure 0.370" it might make a difference in the loads and accuracy.
