Colt "Dick" special
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:13:49 AM »
I have an opertunity to buy a Colt Detctive Special in nice shape, but it's in 32Colt caliber. Is this gun strong enough to be rechambered to the 32H&R Mag???  The cylinder is long enough and it is a 6 shot gun, I'm thinking that this would make a nice warm weather cary gun in 32H&R Mag.  The chambers now look like they would easily chamber a 32S&W Long.

Is this a good idea or is it now strong enough  for the 32H&R?

I know in 38 special form they will take plus p stuff but a steady diet is not recomended. Without really knowing id guess yes. Id contact Dave Clements as he would probably know the answer for sure. My problem would be that i have owned two detectives and there fine little guns. Guns that are appreciating everyday. I would say that if it were mine id load it with good .32 long handloads with a full wadcutter bullet and never alter it. There getting to be real classics.

I agree.  Keep it original and carry it when needed.
I have an old one in 38 and it is still a pretty big gun with the long handle.  You may be happier getting a J frame smith and adding boot grips to it as a pocket or tuck away gun.
