Federal ammo question.......
« on: November 18, 2007, 03:46:35 PM »
I'm now shooting Fed power-shok (blue box) 150g sp in my .308, after these last few are gone I will be reloading.

The question, what 150 gr sp would be the nearest match to what Federal uses?

Speer bullets, and Federal cartridge company, are owned by the same parent company......Federal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Edina, Minnesota-based ATK, Alliant Techsystems.

Still that doesn't mean Federal is loading bullets made by Speer. Not to say they don't load some made by Speer either but Federal makes many of their own bullets and I'm pretty sure the one you are using is one made by them not speer. Federal used to sell their bullets and cases as components but no longer does.

I recovered one out of a doe I'd shot, I know this doesn't mean alot , but it looked like the hot-cor picture on their website.
But you would think if they used speer they would advertise that like the bear claw etc.

Your right GB.......Federal premium sometimes loads sierra, Nosler, and Barnes bullets.  I'm not sure how tightly coupled Federal is with Speer.  That said, if I were the parent, I'd be working to more tightly integrate each company with the other.  I'm thinking the Federal blue box is probably using a federal bullet not available to the handloader.

I recently got a 308 and have a 243 as well
Federal website says the 80g 243 is a Speer Hotcore
they don't specify on the 150g 308 bullet
