It's not for me to prescribe, but you will certainly need a scope to utilise the accuracy potential of a 222.
You can still get a better cheekweld by trying a few alternatives.
There's a pack that straps onto the stock with some padding on the top edge but "strap ons" are not my thing
. As an alternative you can try Karsten Hansen's adjustable cheekpiece if you are preapred to drill your stock. The product is top notch, but you will need to ask Karsten whether it isn't too wide for a 527. Maybe he can make a narrower one.
Depends on what you want it for, but an open sigted 222 is a little teeny bit objectionable to me
