Just out of curiosity I was wondering what has been the best bullet in 25-06 that you are using in various catagories. Mainly accuracy bullet terminal performance. I have useing Remington 100 gr corelokts and shot twice on deer once at 20 yards and the other at 40 yards and serious damage with only 1 bullet recovered and mushroomed almost all the way down to the base and stuck just beneath the skin on the opposite side. The other time I dont know where the bullet was i didnt really look too hard for it so i am not sure how it did. i am getting decent accuracy for me good days 3/4 to 1 1/2 sometimes 2 1/2 I am sure it is me. Anyways i will let this go. Let me know and anything I can do to help my gun out that is not in FAQ's I am all ears. I have just a plain Handi 26" 25-06 w/ busnell trophy 3x9x40. Federal 115gr Nosler partition, shoots real well in mine, < "1, no need to question the performance of the partition, they just work under all conditions, up close or out there.

sorry mess up 90 gr. in my 243 , 190 gr. in 30-06 , 25 gr. in 375 h&h got my moose with it.

If you don't handload, try the 120 Federal Fusions, or the 120 Corelokts . The Fusions are a great bullet. I would try them first.

I've shot a bunch of deer with a 25-06 and woudn't hunt with a 100 gr bullet unless it was a premium controlled-expansion, especially at those ranges.

Work up some loads for your 25/06 using the Barnes 100 TSX, great bullet, will slay anything...JimP.

i load the 115 gr partitions and ballistic silvertips for deer, 100 gr ballistic tips and 75 gr v-maxes for long range varmints. all loads average well under an inch and performance is fantastic. the ballistic tips are a bit much on close range deer, but there isnt much tracking involved.

For sheer accuracy the 100 grainers seem to do better in almost all the .25-06s I have loaded for. However, I still like the performance of the Nosler 115s and the Hornady 117s better and sacrifice a bit of accuracy to get better performance. For powder try H4350 or H4831 they work great in the .25-06.

Well I am fixin to go out to the range and see about the hornady 117's that is if the wind has calmed down. I am thinkin about getting into the reloading scene. My only problem is the initial cost to get quality equipment to start reloading and to do it the way it should be done. I have one of those Classic Lee reloaders that you have to have a hammer or mallet to use it. I have tried it for my 7.62x54r but obviously with that scoop it is not very accurate or versitle with the powder load size. Anyways thanks for the info. Stu

Very accurate ammo can be made with the Lee Loader, many here use them and that's all they use, and have for many years. If you want a little more versatility, just buy a scale and a trickler and customize your loads instead of using the dipper, that's what I started out with.

There are several threads and a sticky in the Handloading forum that will help you choose what's right for you and your budget. The $90-$100 Lee Anniversary Kit w/manual is another way to get started, but if you can swing $250, the RCBS Rockchucker Supreme Master kit is about as good as you can get and not break the bank.

I would encourage you to do exactly what Tim (AKA quickdtoo) advised - get a scale with your Lee Loader ($16.00) and you can make amazingly accurate ammo. You might think about a case sizer (couple of bucks) and a caliper (about $40.00) and a Lee Auto Primer tool ($12.00).

Neck Sizing Hint:
Something that I've started doing is to place the cartridge into the Lee Loader "sizing die" and place the two into my bench vice. I find that by squeezing the cartridge into the sizing die, the neck is more accurately sized than if I use the hammer method.

Quick I hate to say this but i saw one of those RCBS presses with a scale some dies and some other odds and ends go for 100 and yes I passed it up. Dont ask why. I was dumb and in the service at the time so i really didnt have much money. Not for that stuff I had beer to buy and women to chase. Anyways thanks for the info I will look into the stuff you are talkin about.

tmccray45 thanks for you info also I have access to a really good set of calipers. My dad used to build bullets for the military .. anything from the 50 to the 120 howitzer so needless to say he has a really good set of calipers but I will look into that auto primer

calipers can be bought through harbor freight for under $20

. at that price they are still reliable. i have a set of the really cheap plastic type in my tool box at home that still work after 2 years of abuse. i also have a set of the 6 inch metal type for work (mechanic) use. i boutht the metal set with a box & extra battery for $17. they have been through alot of abuse also. hope this helps, mke j.

The Lee Loader can be made much more versatile with a couple low cost additions.
1) Lee powder scale
2) Additional Lee powder dippers ordered from Lee in one up size
3) A flat file
4) Reload manual or information from powder rmanufactures websites

One simply takes the next size up dipper and with a flat file, files the top down a little at a time, while dipping and measuring the powder on the scale. This was recommended to me by Lee when I wanted 13 gr Lil Gun loads for my Hornet. I ordered extra dippers in one up size directly from Lee. The Lee powder scale from Midway (about $20 bucks as I remember). It's very fast to do as the plastic dippers shave down quickly.

Last, with the addition of the scale, you will see just how accurate your dipping really is l

My dipping is amazingly accurate from a tuna can and using the push down method and allow to fill rather than scooping, strike with business card. It's always with in 1/10th a grain.

You can easily adjust dippers to suit your needs.

Well just so yall know I think I have caught the bug... It is now starting to burn in my veins I can feel it if I get started. I am asking for this stuff for Christmas. I dont have enough money to go out and get it all so I will ask my wife for some mom for some dad for ... well yall get it. My luck I will get bullets and no powder or the dies and no press LOL :-) oh well one day but I am ready I think I got lucky with my 25-06 because so far it is one of the better shooting guns I have with factory ammo so wish me luck. I think or from what i have heard that 4350sc would be a good starting powder. Let me know yall I am a newby at the reloading Oh and I am going to try the 100 grain Barnes TSX first I think.

Just bill, I was wondering about that diping way of measuring powder. I am new to the concept and when i was taght to load, the charge had to be the same everytime so we allways measured it out. But the dipping methoud sounds ok, by that i mean safe and quick. How do you make the dipper hold the right amount of powder? do you just cut it down? I just bought a set of lee dies for my hornet that is coming soon. It too, has a dipper in it and i didnt think i would use it. But... you just might have changed my mind. let me know, thanks.

After referencing your re-load manual. Go to Lee's web site or use the Lee Manual and pull up the specs on the dippers. Well............here http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi-data/instruct/DIPPERS.pdf

Pick out the corresponding dipper that is one size up from the loads your interested in.

Order them singular directly from Lee.

Take a flat bastard (course) file and file the dipper down a little at a time while weighing it on a scale. Once it's where you want it permanently mark it.

Before attempting to dip powder study the proper technique of push down, allow to fill naturally then strike level with business card (one does not actually dip). A cleaned out Tuna Fish can is commonly used to dip powder from.

$200 shipped, it pours and weighs the powder while I'm seating the bullet in the last case that I charged, wouldn't do it any other way ever again.
