great plains bullet mold
« on: December 04, 2007, 08:02:40 PM »

Hi All,

I'm looking for a great plains bullet mold to cast some conicals for my .50 flintlock.  I've seen new and used molds advertised with a solid point and solid base, but I'm looking for a hollow base.  Does anyone know where I can find a hollow base mold?  Thanks for your help,

Jeff

have a Lyman Great plains mould, and I have not had good luck with it. My barrel is a Green Mountain 1-28. My barrel likes a bullet to have a top ring in the .510 range. The Midway catalog lists the GP to be .508, but in reality the top ring is only .504 I sent it back to Lyman and they said it was ok that that is the size it should be. Long story shot, Midway said they would change the add and give me my money back. I kept it to try paper patching with it. I am going to get a .501 sizer die and try them soon. If they still won't shoot I am going to sell the Mould. I am sure it would work better in a TC barrel.  Ron
