One frame for all calibres
« on: November 28, 2007, 12:19:38 AM »
I hear that H&R has a new frame for high intensity magnum rounds on the way. How about making it convertible between center fire and rim fire? While looking at mine I figured that the breech face could be bored out and a hardened plate set in that contains the firing pin. The plate would be centered  slightly lower that the center of the bore. To change from CF to RF you would loosen a set screw and rotate the plate 180 degree.
Has this been done already? Is it even feasible?

Your idea sounds quite practical if you have the machines and ablity to do the work, don't expect to see it from H&R.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

All they have to do is offer rim fires in offset bore, like the versa pack barrel, as accessory barrels.
Apparently they just don't want to.

In their defense the sportster is so cheap and lite why bother.

Parts; you make a good point. Once set up for production that would be far lee expensive that a convertible action.

If TC can make offset bores for the rimfire barrels for the Encore, there's no reason why H&R can't once they work out the bugs. ;) H&R offered some 3 barrel combos early this year, but made it a very limited run, maybe they'll offer them again next year since they obviously sold well.
