The Iver Johnson Top break revolvers are real similar to the S&W top breaks. They are good quality pocket pistols in .22 through .38 S&W. My friend's father in law carried one every day a a rancher in Montana and swore by it.
Or are you talking about a Colt SAA Clone? You must be because the top breaks have an internal ejector rod that ejects the cartridges on opening the gun. If so the Colt clones were called the Cattleman Magnum were in .357, 44 mag, and 45 Long Colt. Barrell lengths were from 4 3/4" to and 18 inch Bunt line and were discontinued in 1984 (Blue book of gun Values, 24th ed. page 820) Crap! I owe Mrs. Huber, my 8th grade english teacher an apology, I did use parenthetical reference after school, twice now!
Prices are not very high for these guns. $125 to 220 depending on condition. More for the Bunt line with the 18 inch barrel. But it should shoot and work well for any task at hand.
Since it is a colt clone the ejector rods from any should work. Check out Gun Parts or your local gun shop will be able to help you get the correct part. Before ordering it check around the house, he may have the parts on or near the work bench or with his other shooting stuff. Usually people wrap it up in something like a lunch sack or zip loc bag till they get back to that project. Your looking for a 1/4 inch tube about 4 inches long with a flat side and a slot. The rod is a steel stick about an 1/8 of an inch round with a 90 degree tab at one end and a spring both are around 4 inches long.
