M24/47 Yugo VS M48 Yugo Opinions

I have a M 48 that I am happy with.  I see M24/47's for sale, especially the barreled actions only for $99.  I would get a new stock and trigger an peep sight and not mess up original.

Is it a good weapon on a parr with K98 or M48?

very nice weapon actually. i am working on one right now, a .308 sporter project. the 24/47 i have is a very nice gun, even left as-is. nicer than the mauser k98k i have.

I have a C&R license.  If I might ask where you acquired your Mod. 24/47 ? 
I wish to shoot 8mm so I would leave original barrel, what shape was barrel in?

How was trigger on 24/47? my only real gripe about my M48 was very bad trigger.  I will soon replace that.

prairiedog555:  I have both rifles.  My M48A is a great shooter but it is, however, a military Mauser.  To really smooth it out it needs a sporter trigger, stock and scope. 

The M24/47 is a VZ24 reworked at the preduse44 (factory 44??) in 1947.  The actions of these rifles are smoother and more sought after for sporterizing.  The bore should be pretty good, it was re-barrelled in 1947 as part of the rebuild.  I have the same rebuild from 1952 and my bore is excellent.  Unless the trigger turns out to be smooth (and they do have after travel) it too would need a good sporter trigger.  Those rifles have straight bolts - it would be necessary to have the bolt cut and rewelded if you want to scope it unless you go with a scout mount.

Respectfully, Mikey, the 24/52 is a reworked Czech VZ24.  This is a full size, 98 type Mauser. 

The 24/47 is an intermediate length action.  It is a model 1924 from FN or Kragujevac, Yugoslavia that was reworked in 1947 at the Preduz-whatever 44 place.

Man, I want a Mauser, any Mauser bad.

bluebayou:  I have heard that the CZ24/47 and 52s are different actions but cannot agree.  The VZ24 action is full length 98 Mauser, whether it is original, or barreled in 1947 or 1952.  It has a full length bolt, not the intermediate length bolt of The M48/M48A which is the intermediate action and not interchangeable with the full length action.  If your bolt handle sticks straight out to the side you have a full length VZ24 action.  The VZ is actually smoother than the K98s and more preferable and served side by side with the K98 throughout WWII. 

The M48/48A is a rock solid Mauser and mine shoots like a champ.  It is rugged, reliable and accurate.  It is also a straight out mil-spec rifle and I wouldn't be expectin' a silk purse from a sow's ear.  Mikey.

I have handled both M48 and yugo M24/47 rifles.  The M48 has a bent bolt, the 24/47 does not.  Both have the FN model 24 extractor cut, a feature not found on any other mausers that I am aware of.  Both are indeed intermediate actions.  A reworked VZ24 would be a nice find.  Love those full length Czech actions!

Model 24/47 is an earlier version. They tend to be all milled, triggerguard and follower wise. The Model 48/48A is pretty much the same but you will find it with stamped floorplates, triggerguard, and followers, and other stamped parts. As mentioned before, 24/47 had a straight bolt, Yugo 48 have bent down bolts. All parts are interchangeable between the two models. Intermediate length (pretty much same length as a small ring mauser. Actually, a 93 mauser trigger guard will  have the same screw mount distance) but is built with a large receiver ring, with bolt guide, full gas shroud, and even has an extra safety item in the recessed extractor cut on the barrel. These were all chambered originally for the 8mm x 57 Mauser.

I have One 24/47 unconverted, a nice little shooter in 8x57, the other I have converted to a sweet .257 Roberts sporter.
