I wish TC would make an in line 50 cal for the Encore frame that would burn smokeless powder. This would be the ultimate modern in line rifle in my opinion. Am I asking to much? What would it take to accomplish this, meaning how would it differ from the present 50 cal barrel? I am in the market for an in line 50 and have considered the Savage but am unsure.

Cheese, it would be nice, but I doubt it will happen. When I talked to T/C about it, they told me they had no plains for a smokeless M/L barrel.  So I bought a Savage and I love it.  I still have my Pro-hunter  M/L though.

I just finished my first season(s) with the Savage.  This year I bought a new MLII with stainless/laminated, and mounted a new Nikon Monarch 4X40 on it.  I have used the "recommended" load - 45 gr. 5744 under a black MMP sabot with a 250 gr. XTP @ 2300 fps.  Costs me about $.46/shot total.  1.5" groups @ 100.  Double lung pass- throughs on 3 deer, they bleed like a tapper on a fresh keg and down in 20 yards or less.  Haven't cleaned it yet, haven't swabbed between shots, haven't had even the hint of a problem.  It's a pretty hefty rifle, not the handiest in a tree stand but I am more than pleased.  I really like shooting this gun!  I have a lot of .429 cast bullets of different profiles and weights leftover from my handgun reloading days I will be trying with other sabots, etc.  too.   I do like this Savage!  That Nikon Monarch is also as bright and clear a scope as any I have used.  Two of my deer were at the first and last legal minutes, which is pretty dark.  The Monarch brightened things up like it was a half hour earlier or later.  I could see every detail beautifully - surprised by the excellence in low light.  I have some pretty nice scopes, but I am really impressed with this one.
I agree that an Encore with a smokeless barrel would be a nice rig.  I am surprised it hasn't been done, at least by an aftermarket barrel maker.  I think someone does them for the NEF types, Encores would be a natural for this.
Like Redhawk, I'm glad I got the Savage.

Thanks for the replies guys. Great story Cementman, glad your season went well. The Savage sounds better all the time. Optics of more than 1x are not allowed in WI for the ML season. So optics are an issue. I have considered a red dot of some sort, but would like a 1x of some kind. Cementman, let me know how the cast bullets work out since I cast my own and have lots of lead.

 If I had one wish it would be that traditional and modern muzzle loader shooters could all get along. Smokeless powder in a muzzle loader? I'm surprised you can't hear the cries of blasphemy from here!;D

Seriously though I wonder what the advantages of smokeless are. Less corrosive? More velocity? I don't know. If someone could let me in on it I would appreciate it.

Cheesehead, I bought one of the very first stainless steel Savage 10MLII muzzle loaders several years ago. I have been more than pleased with it and have taken several deer with it over the years. I have never had any trouble at all with it. The only thing I have done is I installed a Timney trigger and I made a solid aluminum ramrod for it. For a nice, accurate, low maintenance muzzle loader the Savage can't be beat.
If you already have an Encore there is a company called Smokeless Muzzleloading Incorporated, or SMI for short. They will make you a smokeless barrel to your specifications for your Encore. Do a web search and you will find their web site.

One of the main advantages to shooting smokeless is increased velocity so you can shoot longer range...

With my Knight Disc, using 90gs of Goex FFF and a 250 T/C Shockwave, I sight in 2 1/2 inches high at 100 yards and I'm 2 1/2 low at 150...

With a 1x scope. shooting accurately past 150 yards will be a challenge...That's why I asked...If you can't use a variable scope you are basically limited to your sighting system and higher velocities aren't really needed...

There are several reason I got the Savage Smokeless.
1) I like it when I shoot at an animal with a muzzleloader and I don't get blinded by all the smoke. I can see what happens after the shot.
2) Less corrosive.
3) Very easy to clean and maintain.
4) I can leave it loaded all season with a dirty barrel and not having to worry that the breech plug will be corroded to the point of no removal.
5) Powder is less expensive and it takes a lot less to get higher velocities.

But I still have my Encore, just in case.

Redhawk pretty much summed it up.  I too hunt in a 1X state.  To heck with increased velocity.

I can see after the shot AND there is no serious need to clean my barrel after shooting it.  Thats the two reasons I went smokeless and I have never looked back.

I rigged my wife up with an SMI barrel on an NEF frame.  Thing shoots great, I would recommend them, if you really want a smokeless barrel for your encore its the only way to go at present.

My omega now sits in my safe collecting dust until I go elking again in CO someday.
