Hunting squirrels with a scoped MKII?

I have a MKII with a 6 7/8 tapered barrel which I would like to hunt squirrels with. I would possibly like to scope the gun for this purpose. Would a 2X handgun scope or a red dot scope work best for this situation and does anyone make a holster that would work for this setup? Thanks, Barry

I have a red dot on my single six and yes there are holsters that will fit your Ruger. I found one that fits mine and it is made by Bulldog. Found it at Optic Planet on the web.

I'd choose a good scope over the red-dot.

Most red dots have no magnification, and the dots are 4-5MOA...which means they cover an inch at 25yds--not the best in terms of accuracy. Great for quick target acquisition, though.

It'll be easier to pick out squirrels, and get accurate shot at longer distances with a good scope.
Most of my scope handguns (contenders) are wearing 2.5x to 4x scopes.

Got a 4x on both my MKII and 10" TC .22 Match, but 2x would probably serve fine--better than a red dot for such a fine target I believe. Uncle Mike's bandoleer is perfect for the TC, and 'works' for the MKII. I was told at a local gunshop that UM's makes a shoulder holster for a scoped auto such as the MKII. If true, that would probably be a more comfortable carry than the bandoleer. They did not have one in stock, so I don't know for sure.

I have an older mod. of the MKII with a 6-7/8 bbl.I have a 2X burris in a B-square mt. With Win PP ammo it will shoot 10 shots @ 40 yds inside dime. I carry it in a  shoulder rig. It is a great squirrel getter.
