Ok guys I need Help!
« on: December 02, 2007, 04:56:33 AM »
Last weekend i noticed my scope base on my 308 was loose. Unfortunately, I was going out to the deer woods. My boss handed me his Encore 270 and told me to just use it. Well.... I fell in love with it. I killed a 145# 9 point with it and really liked the way it felt and shot.

Now for the last few days I have been contemplating selling my handies and buying me an encore. I have many barrels and feel I can sell them all for enough to buy me a decent rifle. I know the first complaint is the cost of the extra barrels. However, I currently own 243, 308, 22 hornet, 44 mag, 204, 20ga, 28 ga, 12 ga and 16 ga. barrels (with two receivers) . In the past two years I have only had the 204 and 308 barrels locked up. I have shotguns that I use for bird hunting and my .410 gun I use for rabbit hunting. Help me please before they all go on the classifieds!

here is all I can do to help you buddy, go with your heart. If that does not quite give you the answer you need then ask your brain and wallet for a little input. "To thine own self be true", get what YOU like and want...Merry Christmas....<><....:)

What MSP said. ;) I bought a used Encore pistol frame, saved me some money over a new one and it had already been "improved" with trigger and hammer modifications, then I bought a 7mm08 pistol and 375H&H Prohunter barrels and Flex-tech t-hole stock for it from Midsouth, Eds Contenders is good too, they have the best new prices on TC products, but you can also get used barrels and frames in the TC Classifieds here regularly too. ;)

Brian,

I have been wanting an one four about 4 years now.  I really liked the idea of switchable barrels and getting used to one trigger and stock.  But once I got a hold of the Handis I've been very content.  Especially since I have been lucky with barrels fitting so well.  But with all that said, You have had the opportunity to hunt with both and seem to really like the TC so I agree to go with your heart.  If you change your mind, sell the Encore a get some new Handis ;D.  Anyway if you do decide to sell the handi's I've been looking for a 22Hornet ;)

Good luck,

JerryKo

I have both and enjoy them both but it seems I always grab a handi or topper when it's time for hunting or shooting.. That said If you decide to part that stuff out I'll take the 16ga barrel. I've been waiting for one to come along for a while.

Well I have owned both.  The encore is a very good quality made gun.  I like the ease of buying barrels and not having to fit them to the frame.  Also, the available calibers from TC and the Fox Ridge custom shop are enormous.  The only complaint is that I had with my encore was I had $1000 dollars in gun, scope and mounts and the thing wouldn't shoot very good groups.  Some calibers are more finicky than others.  I sold mine because I couldn't digest that amount of money for the accuracy.  I do miss it at times though.

Ok fellas, just a heads up, GBO rules prohibit selling/buying/trading in any discussion forum, please use private messages to let Brian know you're interested in any of his Handi collection in case he decides to sell. ;)

I have also fallen in love with the Encore.
Have only my Handi .357 MAX left, and it may be on the way out.

That's ok, my Encore will be history before any of my 40 some H&Rs go anywhere. ;)

I have (and always will have) my original Topper 158 with a .410, 30-30, and a 20 ga.

Thanks for all the help, I will mow it over till after Christmas. Better chance of selling it all then.

Once a Handi-holic...always a Handi-holic...TC's and most all the rest of the single shots are very nice..and offer a wide variety of calibers to shoot with them and can be awesome shooters...but...since you've been bitten...I am sorry to tell you...you'll never been cured...Go and sell off all of them if you want...You'll just buy more of them....even with the higher priced ones sitting in the safe...Walk into a gun store with a large selection of rifles...I guarantee you'll spot a Handi if there is one in the rack...and you'll have to know what caliber it is in...You just never know what what will turn up when you do... ;)
