Ok you 45-70 men !!!

  Ok guys ,

  The 457 Wild West Magnum   Anyone reamed this cartridge into a 45-70 barrel yet

   Ballistics look quite impressive .. if not  and anyone is interested in knowing more you can check the data out at Wild west guns ... of course those of us that are marlin lever lovers will enjoy the custom marlins the produce as well

  And as for who i suspect might have toyed with the idea of this chambering if not already having one done  ?? well my guess is Tim , Come on Quick fess up !! lol

  Any who let me know anything i might need to know about a possible reamed handi barrel into this round...

I believ the 457 wwm is basically a 45-70 with a brass that is .1" longer.  Common sense would tell me that 45-70 brass could be used along with dies and just not set the bullet as deep.  May be a moot point with the handi rifle though due to action strength concerns.  Anybody correct me if I'm wrong

A 30 buck throat job or a ream to .45-90 (.457 Wild West is based on this) will get you the same results.
Pressure redlining is not the way to go............if you want a .458, buy one.

The 45-70 WWG has been discussed some, but for me was just a passing thought, I went with the "45-Uber Magnum", the 45-120-3¼" Sharps Straight.

   hahaha this is why i ask the guys that will know

  And i knew you all would  ... while i have a pretty good general knowledge of the 45-70 im not versed in the other 45s' of that period , i had just  been running around on the net and found the 50 alaskan looking back at me  (with a big grin i might add)

  And noted that the wild west gun guys offered it in a 457 ww mag version in thier marlin break down guide guns ..... well the ballistics looked good and i do believe they mentioned that it was related to the 45-90...but nontheless
 a more powerful 45 and still able to shot the 45-70 as well ...Well it sounded like one heck of an idea

  Only reason im looking at these monster err monster getters is a looming thought that has just been begging to be scratched  ...
 Cape buffalo .....   yeah yeah i know .... but its one of those things that when i ask myself "Yancy ol' boy " questions about what would be those few species that i just have to hunt before the pine box, and number one on the list is American Bison , next is Cape (black death) Buffalo ... really the only animal in Africa that i would have any interest in hunting .. yes there are some other dandy animals to take there , but something about this particular beast moves me ... even if i have to move my behind damn near around the world to find him heh ... well thats a diffrent topic thou

Sure, it can be done. I think I'd use a .45-90 with a Barnes banded solid.

Check out the Garrett custom ammo website - look at the penetration statements.  The 45-70 is more formidable than most folks think!  If that isn't enough, get a reamer from Fred!
