Monarch ammo sticking in .223

My nephew has a .223 that he has had for years, and he recently bought some of that Monarch ammo that is manufactured by Bernal which is a Russian company, and the ammo has steel cases.

It sticks so bad he has had to use a cleaning rod to push the spent cartridge out of the chamber.

He bought quite a bit of this "cheap" ammo, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this particular ammo in their Handi.

I told him to go back to using what he has in the past and see if it still sticks.

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

I also bought some of the cheap Russian steel case stuff...  I don't have a Handi .223 but I shot it in one of those evil black rifles and a couple quality bolt guns.  The chambers all accumulated burnt on fouling that was difficult to remove and caused sticking if not removed.  I learned my lesson--you get what you pay for, cheap ammo is cheap!  I don't shoot it or recommend it to my friends.  Give it to someone you don't like!

H&R/NEF rifles are made to use ammo that's made to SAAMI and ANSI standards, the owner's manual states this right up front, use something else and you're not likely to be happy with the results.

This firearm was manufactured by H&R 1871, LLC, and has
been tested using proof and service ammunition that meets
Sporting Arms & Ammunition Manufacturers Institute
(SAAMI) & American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
performance standards.

Tell him to clean the chamber real good to remove all the varnish that the steel cases have left behind , then sell ot trade for some brass case ammo . The steel case ammo is a nightmare in the Handi and shoots like crap too .  ;)

I also bought some to "get on paper" with a 243 bolt gun. I shot 3 rounds and gave it away. The first shot went fine, the second was obviously under charged it was very quiet and shot very low and the third stuck in the chamber. The gun was a bear to clean as well. I certainly would not recommend Monarch either.

 Heya guys,

  That 223 bull barrel i got from Rvbc has turned out to be quite a shooter... and as was stated by another i used the wolf 62 grain fmj to get on the bullseye, Then fine tune it to my better grouping round (Finished doing that today in fact and will be posting results)
 I made it through a box and a half before i had one stick that required my cleaning rod.... But as far as groupings go with this ammo , Bobby (rvbc) had said when listing this barrel for sale that it liked 62 grainers ... and those wolfs'  were the only factory 62s' i could find locally... Groups were rather good , I wouldnt hesitate to use it on varmints and perhaps deer with the HP rounds ,Of course if it didnt show the stuck case problem (I did start using my brass case stuff after the first stuck case ,with no further problems)
 Good plinking ammo and shoots fine enough for many applications , but no its no tack driving ammo and my mini 14 loved the stuff hehe .. so let me know how many rounds he has Jim, I might be interested in it if he has enough quanity and wishes to sell it ..

He bought about four or five boxes of it, and wanted to plink with it, but since he talked to me, he has given it away, and hopefully not to a friend!

He said he was going to clean and polish the chamber, and get back to using what he used in the past, and has never had problems.

I've used that cheap Monarch ammo before, in 7.62 x 39 in my SKS, but those guns are made to eat that stuff like candy.

Only thing I remember that was bad about it was all the filthy residue it left behind, and it was hard to get the gun clean.

I guess with ammo prices what they are people are willing to try anything to save a few bucks, and especially so if your not into reloading!

Lacquer residue and the red case mouth/primer sealant are two reasons why I started using brake cleaner for my 223 Savage.  I then carried it over to my other rifles for cleaning out the bore quickly.  It cleans the chamber easily, but as I am sure someone will point out, you then have to relube everything.

CRC Brakleen is the same as Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber according to MSDS's at work.  Don't know if you can get it, but it cleans Wolf, Uly, Barnaul residue easily. 

I have no problems with the ammo other than it is dirty.
