Anyone familiar with Weaver Scopes?
« on: December 14, 2007, 03:14:08 AM »
I am interested in buying one of these.

Weaver 4 - 16 x 42mm Classic V-16 Fine Reticle

I have looked through one on the range and it was awesome.  It was so clear and easy to pickup the targets with it.  I don't know if it has click adjustments, or some "micro friction" adjustments like some Leupold's, but I'd like to know that before I make a purchase.

Teddy,

The Weaver Classic 4-16x42 is an outstanding scope for the money. The turrets are click adjustments.  I would highly recommend one.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear.  Now I just have to find a place to buy one.

I looked on Google and they start around $280 and go up from there.  Now I just have to pick who to buy from.

I have that exact scope on my Remington M700 SPS in 223.
It's almost no fun to shoot as everything gets hit and reactive targets like soda bottles, cans and potatoes do not last long and you sit around waiting for the next cease fire to  clean up and add more targets.  The scope is clear and bright and works well.  I have added a 6" sunshade to it and makes the rifle really look good.
With the 24X the caps on the soda bottles are easy to see and hit out to 200yards.
I really like the Weaver stuff and have a few now on rifles.  Any new rifle from now on will wear a weaver as well as any Contender barrel I get.  They are every bit as clear and bright as the Leupolds that other rifles wear, but with 80% price tags.  I keep my scopes clean and use lens paper and solution on them after every trip to the range.
I have a marlin 22mag with a bushnell 3-9 on it .
I have a H&R top break in .22mag with a Weaver 4X
And I just got a Marlin 917V in .17 HMR. with a  Weaver 3-9X38.
Setting the bushnell to 6 the weaver 4X is brighter and clearer, and objects look closer and the 3-9 weaver is no contest to the bushnell.  It's like racing a go cart with a mustang.
The Bushnell will be replaced in the future with a weaver but the question is fixed 6X or a 3-9X38 like the .17.

I think people make a good point about being able to see your crosshairs on game using a fine reticle, but after looking through one of these I don't think it'll be a problem because the glass is so clear.

You might check with Jon at The Optic Zone before you buy. He has great prices, gives better service than anybody and is a sponsor for the forum. He is also an all around good guy from my experience.

I had a very old Weaver scope that I liked a lot, it had very clear optics. Something happened to it as I couldn't get the magnification to move as it seemed to be stuck in one position (they told me the scope tube had got bent, but I don't know how it had). Anyway, the Weaver factory  didn't fix my old one, but sent me a brand new replacement back at no charge. All I was out was the shipping charge there and back.
