Bambi succombed to my .30-06 Handi

Last week I killed a six point buck with my .30-06 Handi.  He had 4 points on his right antler and 2 on his left.  He apparently damaged the left antler while still in velvet.  One tine on the left antler had a hole all the way through it.

It was about a 70 yard shot.  The deer was quartering away from me, almost back end to me.  The 150 grain bullet went in just in front of the left hind quarter, took out three ribs, and destroyed the heart and lungs.  Actually it was the perfect shot.  It didn't touch the intestines, destroyed no meat, and the deer went about 30 yards and dropped, still in the open field.  I drove my truck to where he fell and loaded him in it.

Congrats on a fine deer and some good shooting!

 I want you to give me lessons on how to get those deer to drop within easy truck/4-wheeler range.  I'm getting too old to drag deer across creeks through man-eating briars.

 Which 150 gr bullet did you use?

Way to go Win 73, Sounds to me like a nice buck, no Bambi in my book.
You made a great shot with the Handi, I'd also like to know what bullet you used.
Don't you just love it when you don't have to drag the deer at all!

Congrat: on the deer :My 06 this year passed on a few does I would of like to have a shooter buck cross my lane
I tried to tell the deer to run over to the truck after I get the shot off :never seem to work for me.I think I now use something called a quad.Enjoy the venison

The bullet I used was a 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt.  By the way, it never exited the deer.  So every ounce of bullet energy was dumped in the deer.  The deer didn't bleed due to the bullet wound, only through his mouth.

I have a portable blind staked out in the middle of the field where I hunt.  When I first saw the deer he was behind me.  I didn't have the window on that side unzipped except for a crack to see out.  I knew if I tried to unzip that window it would spook the deer so I just waited for him to get out in front of me.  He looked at the blind once as he walked by about 30 or 40 yards from it.  He got out in front of me about 70 yards and stopped.  Due to the angle he was to me I knew I had to aim far back on his body.  I have the scope set at six power so it was a simple matter to aim just in front of his left hind quarter.  The rest is history. He now reposes in my freezer.  He will be some good eating.

Reposing in the freezer, I like that.  And an admirable display of patience, waiting for the deer tom come around.

 I'm not surprised it didn't exit given the angle and the bone, but it did what it needed to do.  As my Irish friends say, "Good man, yerself".
