Swapping guts between sb2 and shotgun frame???
« on: December 13, 2007, 04:05:37 PM »
Have a 2 1/2 to 3# trigger in a pardner youth shotgun.  I wuold like to swap to a sb2 frame minus the firing pin.  Would I have to swap the pins as well, and can I expect the same good trigger after the swap if this is possible.  Just wondering.

Thanks,

JerryKo

Shotgun firing pins and centerfire rifle firing pins are different, the shotguns being thicker and blunter.  So I doubt you could swap them.  Sorry I don't know whether the rest of the trigger group is the same of not.  If you are going to go threw the trouble of disassembling the trigger group why not just do a trigger job. Youi can follow the directions for a trigger job posted under the FAQ
thread above.

I ment the pins that hold it together, not the firing pins.  I wasn't clear. Sorry About that.  I don't have the stones yet, and just thought it would be a quick fix.  I don't mind a heavy trigger in a shotgun.

I think everything except the fireing pins are the same.  Larry

As Brett said, if you're gonna go to the trouble of swapping parts, just do a trigger job on the SB2 frame, swapping the parts isn't going to guarantee the same light trigger, the frames aren't made identical, so the shotgun parts won't likely fit the same in the SB2 frame, you could end up with a heavier trigger or an unsafe trigger. ;)

Probably saved me a lot of time.  I had a frame apart once to see if I could change a firing pin.  I could have changed a firing pin easy enough.  Problem was the 4+ hours into the next morning of putting it back together. :-[  I should have taken the time to make the temp pin to hold trigger group but I used a small dowel instead and cause a lot of problems. It was undersized and made too much sloop to get everything lined up.  And then the latch,...I 'd like to try again and get better at it.  I'll give it a try one night and post how it went.

Thanks,

I know what you mean JerryKo, every time I work on an H&R I have to make a new slave pin, I'm sure I must have made a dozen over the years but every time I need one I can't find it so it becomes easier to just make a new one than to keep digging through my miscellaneous junk.  But some day I'm going to get organized, at least enough to be able to see the top of my work bench in spots. ;D

I've made 3 slave pins, the first made from a machine screw worked the best, the ends are beveled to allow it to be easily aligned but still not hang up when being pushed out. Made one out of 3/16" brass tubing and another out of a dowel, they all work, but the first one is my favorite when I can find it, it's been lost a couple times!! ::) :D

If you got one laying around, a wooden golf tee is just about the right size.  Cut it to length, push it in and shove it out with the frame pin.  I don't play golf but one of the boys does.  I raid his bags for tees for numerous uses.
