Got a couple questions for you pro's.
« on: December 11, 2007, 01:52:51 PM »
I just bought my first encore. It is the stainless gun with a stainless 450 Marlin TC Custom shop barrel. Well here is my questions. I am very familiar with most modern firearms, but this is my first TC so please bare with me. I searched and still cant find any answers in this section.

Sooooo..

1. Will a contender barrel work on an Encore. ?

2. Will the new Pro-hunter barrels work on a regular Encore.?

3. Is there any little tricks i need to know, or any common problems with the Encore that need to be looked out for ??

Thanks in advance.

The contender and the Encore are different and will NOT interchange. Do a "google" search on the other questions you have. That info should not be that hard to locate.

Chad,
Are you used to stiff recoil?
Optic or iron sights?
Any Encore Barrel should fit on any Encore frame.  A G-2 or Contender barrel will not work on the Encore.
Consistent, but not hard pressure on the forend (in the same place every time) will help in grouping when shooting off of the bench.  Typically closer to the the frame works for most.  Tighten your forend screws to the same tension (try to anyway).  Don't over tighten.
FWIW Since the encore has an external hammer locktime is a little slower than say a bolt action.
Once you get the load developed for your uses (assuming hunting?) make sure you practice from field conditions/positions and see if your point of impact changes or remains the same.
Most of all get out an enjoy it.  If specific problems crop up, then, let the forum know

Yeah im farmiliar with shooting and recoil and the whole deal. Im a hard core gun nut and work in a gun shop part time. Ive messed with the handi rifles and know they tend to have some lock up issues. Just curious if the Encores have any special little tricks. I dont plan on shooting the 450 much. I just wanted an encore and found a steal on this one. More tha anything i was just curious how the barrel situation was. I was sure of that, but wanted to double check. My main deal now is what kinna issues is there that are Encore specific. Do certain springs wear ?? I mean just the common stuff like that. Im not new to shooting, or anything involved with it. I am just an Encore newby.

Thanks Guys , and keep em coming..

Hard core is fun.
Springs can be an issue both with the Contender and the Encore at times.
The guy that has the most information available to the everyday user, in fact the how to part is free, is not allowed here.
Sometimes the spring that pushes the bolts out on Contenders needs a stronger spring (don't have an Encore so not sure if that is a problem) mine did.  Springs for the trigger need to sometime be replaced or modified (both Encore and Contender).  The Encore trigger can be much better than it comes from the factory.  If you like to tinker and to understand how everything works, his info can be very helpful.
If this interests you do a google search on   "Contender trigger jobs"

1. Absolutely not.
2. yes
3. yes but do a little reading if you peruse for specfic info. you'll get all kinds of info. Gun setup can be unique to break action guns as can handloading and shooting technique.

Live2hunt - call TC they should send you one for free. If not I'll send you one for a nominal postage fee. Original Contender ?

If you happen to get a muzzle loader barrel for your Encore, make sure you remove and clean the firing pin after shooting the muzzle loader. My friend has an Encore and he started getting misfires, he finally pulled the firing pin and it was corroded from the blow-by from his muzzle loader barrel.

GOOD SHOOTING!
