You said any input! I shoot a #1 in .270 win and love the gun. Am not sure if you were asking about the #1, 35 Whelen , or combo. I was considering the 35 Whelen for a big game gun myself so have looked in to it as well. I talked myself out of it since the biggest thing I have around is some ferral hogs and have no immediate plans of going after big game but some day I will. I like it for the fact it is a harder hitting than the 30-06 but with about the same recoil. It is after all a necked up 30-06 cartridge and has been around as a wildcat since 1922. Seems to me to fall between the 30-06 and 350 win mag. Here is some balistics from remingtons web site on there ammo. The Energy at 100yds for the Whelen is 2680, the 350 mag is 2711, and the 30-06 is 2216.
