New TC encore owner
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:49:48 PM »
Hello everyone, I just purchased a new Stainless encore pistol with the stainless .500 S&W Mag 15" barrel with no sights, I once owned the S&W X Frame .500 8 3/8" barrel and had trouble with it locking up, I shot 500 rounds or more through it and continued having trouble even after adjusting loads, changing to harder primers, etc, I finally had enough and got rid of it! I really missed the caliber so when I decided to purchase an encore the S&W .500 was my first choice, I Guess what I'm trying to say is I'm no stranger to the .500 Mag. But man I must say this thing is a beast at the recoil end!! This gun IMO is far worse than the Big S&W X Frame I owned. I put a Leupold FX-II 4x28mm scope on it, and used the Leupold 1 piece dual dovetail base, Anyone on here have experience with the .500 encore? I seen the thread about scopes and bases, I feel confident in my Leupold scope and base holding up, anyone used this same setup? I'm very happy with the gun! cant wait for the rain to stop so I can get out and put some rounds through it.

The good thing about the Encore handgun in 500 S&W Magnum is that once you're used to shooting it, puny rounds like the 460 S&W Magnum will be easy.

You made a good choice in going with the Leupold scope; it should hold up.  Your mounts may or may not hold up; I don't have any personal experience with that type.  I've gone to SSK Industries' T'SOB mounts for my heavy recoiling handgun barrels since I got sick of other bases looseing up.

My best load for the 500 S&W Magnum uses H110/Win. 296 and 400 gr. Sports Master bullets.  This load will do about 1 to 1.5 inches at 100 yards for me off the bench.  Since you'll be loading for a single shot handgun, there is no need to crimp the bullets.

  That sure helps me with some choices.

You can get some after market grips that will help alot with the recoil. Try to find some like you had on your S&W. I`ve had 2 .500`s, a production model and a Performance Center gun and never had any trouble with ether.
