I got an invite to try out a new range North of me by a fellow GBO guy mcwoodduck.
The range is pretty cool! 50-200 yard targets and metal targets at each distance. Nice
to be able to hear a clank when you hit something once in a while. The range is
informal, witch I find very refreshing. Along with paper targets we had several others.
My host was so kind to bring along a bag of potato's, some 12oz water bottles, and
some 2 liter soda bottles. There were also numerous golf balls and other targets of
opportunity. I brought my 22 Hornet Handi, 223 Bull Barrel Handi, and my Marlin
336 30-30. The Marlin and the 223 Bull Handi were having issues today. I'm working
on developing a load for the Marlin. Haven't got there quite yet. The 223 bull's
forend is still giving me problems. I bedded it with RTV a while back and I am
either going to have to re do it or go another route. The 22 Hornet is an
entirely different story. It has been absolutely deadly from the very first shot
I ever took with it. Today was no exception. I recently ordered 300 Sierra
40 gr Varminter Hornet bullets from Midway. For some reason they sent me 45 gr
bullets instead. No biggie. I loaded them up with 12 grains of Lil' Gun and used
my new Lee factory crimp die to finish them up. What a combination! I was
turning potatoes into hash browns at 100 yards with every shot. I put a water
bottle out at the 150 yard line and exploded it with the first shot. 2 liter soda
bottles exploded like an M-80 went off in them when hit by that 45 gr bullet.
Golf balls were blown into oblivion out to 100 yards. My best group with the
Hornet on paper today was a little under an inch at 100 yards. I love this rifle!
I got to try several different firearms out today. I was really impressed with the
T/C 223 Contender 14 inch. That is one sweet handgun! I have to get me one
of those! The CZ 452 Lux 22 LR bolt action has got to be the most accurate iron
sighted 22 LR that I have ever shot. I have to get one of those too!
I had a fantastic time today. A big thanks goes out to mcwoodduck and the guys
at the range! I can't wait to go back!
