Here in coastal Alaska, the deer are small but large brown bears sometimes come at the shot to take the gut pile (and more if they can).  Only a couple years ago the paper reported on a local guy who thought the bears had gone in so he took a deer with his .243.  A bear picked him up and shook him before it took his deer.  I knew a fellow who hunted here for 40 years with a M70 in 375 H&H and 100 new brass.  He arrived here after Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, etc. and then using the GI Bill to obtain a BS in Forestry.  He took most every kind of game with that 375 and claimed those 100 cases were still holding up over 40 years later.   He was also a part-time gunsmith and that is how I got to know him.

Personally, I don't think you will be having any problems any where with the right loads for that .375, at least for big game... Buy it and use it...  I have more than I need but always look to get something "new".  Two or three of mine could be my "only" rifle except for Africa and Alaska.  But then, I haven't hunted in either place yet.  I bought a Steyr .376 for just that eventuality though...

Personally, I've never felt overgunned. So, I think .375H&H is a good choise for allaround gun?

I have a Sako in 375 H&H and I ALWAYS thought it to be the only rifle I would consider as a single rifle choice! BUT, about two years ago I acquired a  O/U 12Gauge/30-06. This is what I consider NOW to be the single rifle choice!!

Happy New Year

I did the exact same thing!  I sold off all my assorted guns and got myself a Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger.  It can be loaded to any level I need to.  I wanted a rifle I could hunt anything with (coyotes this weekend!) and I was also looking for all kinds of weather resistance.  I'm not looking back....
