Hi. I'm new here, and I thought I'd introduce myself with a question that showcases my ignorance.
I just got my buffalo classic back from the factory. I sent it there because, even with the factory sights dialed all the way up, it hit low at just 100 yards. I called 'em up and they said sent it in and I did, and they sent it back with no explanation, just a snapshot of a three round group labeled 100 yards Remington 300 grain. This group was still low. After a little more experimentation this morning, I find that Remington green-box 300 grainers do indeed work (the sights still sit in the low range, 3/4 up for dead-on), but 405s max out at two inches low at 100.
My question, then, is: what gives? Is this normal behavior for the b/c and its Williams sights? Maybe the rifle/sights combo is maximized for higher-powered handloads? Is it an individual variation in the rifle? Assuming that changing sights is the way to fix the problem, what good (read: nearly indestructible) aftermarket sights are out there?
