Witch Savage should I get in 223

I'm wanting to get a Savage in 223 but I don't want to pack around a 10 pound gun I currently have a Handi in 223 but I want a couple more shots been having alot of double coyotes come in to the call lately and would like to get a second shot off to try and get them both

Any Savage is a good action, but if you may want to do what I did. I bought a Rock River AR for the close shots 250 yrds. and closer, and built a .22-6mm on a Savage action for the shot 1,000 yrds.  In the real world I figure that I should get over 50% of them at 800 yrds.

That's what I was thinking they got good action as far as alot of extra shots I have a RRA also in .308 but for coyotes I don't need that much power just something to get out 200 to 250 yards

Why would it weigh 10 pounds?  I have one with a Bushnell High Contrast 4 x 12 scope mounted that weighs 7 lb. 13 oz. (I just weighed it on a postal scale).   I had a H&R Ultra Varmint in .223 that felt heavier with that same scope than my 11.  Handi's seem to be fairly heavy in the smaller calibers.  I would recommend it since it represents such a good value.

Some of there varmint guns list as 10 pounds. I don't want to pack a 10 pound gun threw the brush where I coyote hunt I have a Handi in .223 and I agree its a good gun but I want something a little faster to make a follow up shot if needed without getting another AR style gun.

I would consider buying a Stevens 200 and then putting a good stock on it.

I have a Savage Predator Hunter in 223.  It has a medium weight barrel which shoots very well but doesn't weigh a ton.  It carries very well and is set up for varminting.  Second choice would be the Stevens but then you'll want a better trigger and stock.  Unless you want a project, I'd buy a Predator Hunter as its ready to go!

What scope do you have on it or did you get the package deal.

I put a Leupold 3X10 on my Predator Hunter.  I bought the rifle without a scope.  You can get it either way.

I'd get a Stevens and leave the plastic stock on it. They're not that bad, especially for a carry gun. Not that hard to stiffen the forearm on them if you want to use a bipod.

I would also buy the Stevens 200. I have two of them. The barrel and stock make the difference in weight. Just by switching barrels and stocks will easily add 4+ pounds to your rig. The Savage barrels have a heavy contour to them. The 22" light weight barrel and plastic stock make it about as light as it gets. I would sand down the plastic stock so that there are no high spots and the parting lines are smoothed out. I would then paint it with Krylon Fusion paint in a color of your choice. I then would replace the trigger with a good after market one. I think you will be very happy with it as a carry gun. There have been reports of feeding problems with some 223's. I have not had any problems with mine.

But when I was at my gun dealer getting ready to order a rifle he showed me a CZ 550 American in 22-250 that a guy ordered and put half down on then when it got here he said he can't pay the other half and he wanted his money back .So I looked it over and liked how it felt we went out that night and shot it and I told him I would take it .I put a Barska 10-40x50 Swat Extreme Tactical 30mm Scope on it and a 13 1/2" to 27" Harris BI-pod and i'm hitting soda cans at 350 yards with with ease.I shot 1 coyote with it so far and it was bang flop dead at 235 yards.

You bought a very nice rifle. It costs twice + of a Stevens 200, but it is a much nicer rifle. You get what you pay for most times. I was thinking very heavily into getting one in 221 Fire Ball, for a light weight walk around rifle. I have went a different direction. Getting a super light 22 Hornet barrel for one of my Ultra varmint Handis.
