Settled on a Coyote Load-- .30-30 Handi Gets the Nod
« on: December 19, 2007, 12:44:03 PM »
I found a long-forgotten box of Speer 100 grain Pliinkers that I bought back in '81 or '82.  As was suggested in an earlier thread, this bullet can be thought of as a cast bullet with a long gas check.  So today I was able to get out and test loads with 3031, Re 7, 748, and BLC-2.  Reloader 7 was the winner with a 5 shot group of about 1 1/4" at 100 yds (I don't expect shots over 200 yards where I'll be setting up so this is acceptable given the limited time I have to develop a load), the other 3 powders didn't even come close-- funny since the pressures and velocites should be similar.  Just works that way sometimes.

So hopefully I'll get a chance to see how this bullet/cartridge combination does on coyotes at medium ranges.  Will report back if I'm able to get a shot.

Thanks for all the input on the other thread, guys!

Sweet! Be sure to let us know how she does! It will be interesting to see what kind of pelt damage you get from it. I have been thinking about using my old marlin that granddad gave me on my deer next year. but havent realy decided, I have also been thinking about geting another one as a handi gun or just one to have in the truck. (yea right along with the other half that live in there!LOL ;D) Sorry for being windy and rambly.
