Duo Rings for TC?

I got a deal on a TC #9815 Duo Rings for my TC Contender Super 14.  The slotted heads of the screws are dinged up that go into the barrel.  I think they're 6-48 X .250 with .150 diameter head.  I see Midway USA has 6-48 X .250 with .200 diameter heads for under $5.00.  Does anyone know if these will fit in the Duo Rings with the larger head screws? 

I'm also interested in opinions on the #9815 Duo Rings in general.

Whad ' Y'all think about them?  Are they too high?  Will this hinder shooting up close?

Don't know if the screws will fit but you can mike the counter bored holes to see. If you can find them I would go with allen head or torx head screws as they are far less likely to get buggered up and easier all around to work with.

You want my opinion of TC Duo Rings mounts....pros and cons

Pros
You only have three parts to work with...less the screws.
If you like high quality bluing, you get that

Cons
They cost too much.
They have about half the clamping surface of standard Redfield/Burris/Leupold rings.
If the front ring is not lined up with the back ring they will forever stay that way.
They are too high for me and the scopes I have tried to use them with.
In scope mounting for a Contender they would be my last choice.

The would not be my first choice either.  They do have less parts, but have a reputation for letting scopes slip under moderate recoil.  I use Leupold bases and rings mostly but there are other good choices also for less than the price of the Duo rings.

This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.  I got this mount for a song or I wouldn't have purchased it.  Something didn't look right.  As soon as I put it on the gun it really didn't look right.  I'm sort of amazed that TC would make a mount for their guns that was less than desirable.  Way too high!!  I'm going to give it a try.  If I can stand it I will otherwise I'll probably go with a Weaver style base and some Leupold rings that will get the sight closer to the barrel.

They will give you lots of clearance for thumbing back the hammer. But they don't allow for any fore and aft adjustment of the scope...the fixed ring spacing is too close to the scope turrets.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for them but they functioned just fine and did what they were purchased to do.

If you call T/C, I suspect they would send you the screws you needed for free or for a minimal charge.

Duo-Rings make for a neat installation since there isn't scope base hanging over where the barrel taper begins.  I also don't find them to be too high.  I wouldn't, however, use them in guns with heavy recoil since the scope will probably slip in the rings and/or the base will loosen.  They lasted less than 100 rounds before loosening on my 460 S&W Magnum even with Loctite.  They're just fine though for low recoiling rounds like the 222 Rem., 223 Rem., etc.

I'm going to put my Ultra Dot 25 on my 1986 vintage Contender Super 14 30-30 w/bbl.  My past experience using high mounted sights with hand guns hasn't been very good especially for making close in shots (under 25 yards).  I end up having to aim high for a close in shot.  That's sometimes hard to remember while in a hunting situation.

Duorings do make for a clean look. Out of my 18 (gulp!!!) barrels, I have the Duorings on one 17HMR, two 22lrs, and one on my 15 inch .308 Encore barrel. I did not expect much because I had not had good luck on a 10 inch 44 Mag barrel with scope slippage....but it worked fine and have had no scope slippage in the 4 years it has been aboard. I used blue Loctite when installing the Duoring base, checked for alignment of the rings (did not need lapping), and used rubber cement within the rings for the scope contact areas. The scope is a TC 2-7x lighted reticle. This is my dark rainey afternoon/early evening deer killer. Love that lighted reticle! Gene

I tried to mount my Ultra Dot 25 on my Contender today.  The Duo Rings are too close together for this sight.  The sight won't fit between them.  It doesn't break my heart.  I like for my sight to be as close to the barrel as I can get it.

I like the duo rings for pistols but not for rifles as they do not allow much room for adjustment and eye relief and that is not as big a problem on a ler pistol scope as a rifle scope. They work just fine on my 14" 375 Win Contender and are very nicely made.

I used to use them.  You would think that the rings would be in perfect alignment since they are machined in one piece, but they are the only rings that I have ever used that left ring marks on any scope that I put in them.

I have switched all of them to Leupold DD setups and members here that like them have gotten a few cheap.

I tried the Duo Rings and did not find them to my liking. I personally like a set up where I can use 3 to 4 rings. May be over kill to some, but I personally do not want to be in the field and find that my scope has slipped.
