Another 357 question
« on: December 20, 2007, 02:56:42 PM »
I am getting ready to get some 360 brass for my 357 barrel and wonder what 200 grain bullet you all are using. I cast my own so I am looking at a new mould. The lyman 195 round nose, and the 200 grain gas check by lyman and rcbs are the ones I have my eye on. I like the bore riding nose on the 195 and rcbs. The 195 round nose has me wondering how the plain base would do at higher velocities. I am thinking the longer bullet might get me a little closer to the rifling in this loooong chamber.

thanxs in advance.

can't wait till x-mass. Santa has a 1.5 x 6 pentax gameseaker and a set of rings in the sleigh for me!

I wouldn't do the plain base 200 gr in the Handi 357.  Just did it - shot a doe this year with it - she didn't even know she was hit.  Didn't mess up much meat, but there was practically no expansion - alot of lino in the alloy - hard bullet.  You need a gas checked slug from wheelweights.

My Handi can chamber 360 DW in it's factory chamber - the commercial Saeco slug was a plain base 200 gr design (looks just like #351).  I could load it to 357 max OAL & used 357 max load data because of the OAL.  I think the RCBS design is going to work best, but you won't be able to crimp it in the crimp groove (no big loss).  The best may be the Lyman 358627 - like the gent in the other current 357 handi post has - if you can find one.

If RanchDog gets his 190gr design working & available - I'll definetly be getting one.
