Adding another Handi
« on: December 22, 2007, 10:52:18 AM »
Well ran into a deal I can't pass up.A friend has a bull barrel 223 in great shape and around 75 or so rounds down the tube.Shoots remington 55gr factory loads almost as well as a handload he worked up using ww748 and 50gr bullets.Forgot what bullet he was using.Anyhow $100 for it,so since I was planning to get a new one to have an extra frame to work with, life is good! :D :D
Now I'll checkout some stocks, and if I can find a bull barrel 308 again, sold the one I had :-\ be good to go.By the way,how many different calibers have been made past & present in bull barrels in the Handis??

Yeah pretty lucky on that deal.I consider it a christmas present to me!!What powder you using with the 55s?My other 223 shot so well with IMR3031 that I never got around to trying any others.Since he is throwing in some 748 I will stick with it till its gone.May try some H322 or H335 in both this spring.

Mine does very well with a near max load of IMR4895 under the 55 grain Hornady V-max flat base bullets and Federal small rifle primers .

MSP Ret,mine likes 24.5grs IMR 3031 with either 50gr vmax or 50gr hornadys either sxsp or plain spire point. They all shoot 3 shots right at half inch at 100 yards. The book says right at 3200,and the max is 25.7 for 3400fps.
Played around with oal and best for mine was 3.250 for sxsp and 3.31 for the vmax.

DW06,

I had simular results with 3031 and 50spsx. same OAL but only 24.0 grains in 22" stainless standard barrel. I chronied at 2875 and 2950 for 24.5. I used cci small rifle primers.

Thanks for the info JerryKo,I was only going by what my hornady book listed, you know how that works what the book says and what you really get are two different things.
Forgot the primer but it was remington 7 1/2 for mine.Just thinking about it and I will try the 3031 in the heavy barrel too since I have a bunch and it has done well in 223,22-250 and my short barreled 308.
Hope you all have a merry christmas!!
