New Handi 22-250 (Having Trouble)

The gun shoots great.  However, it breaks open as soon as it it shot, and it will not eject the cartridge.  I have a 7mm-08 and it works great, when you open it up it throws the shell over your head.   This 22-250 is brand new OoTB.  You guys have an awesome site.  I have been reading for a while.  THanks

Thanks.  Cleaning it up right now going to give it a try later.  Thanks for the info and I hope everyone here has a Merry Christmas and are as blessed by the Lord as I am.  Remember the Iraq Soldiers and the price they pay.

cleaned it all up and it still will not eject a Shell. I kept reading and found the instructions, the gun will still not eject the shell.

Sounds like you have one of the new extractor barrels , my 22-250 is the same way , great for the bench but not worth a hoot for hunting with gloves on . 

Give the chamber a good polishing and it will do wonders , did mine and all it takes is a little tip and the cases just fall out .

How can I tell, and how to I get it to stop popping open when I shoot it?

go to the FAQ's link at the top of the forum list. the answers to all your questions should be there. look for POP OPEN MEDICINE and look at the bottom of your underlug and compare it to the pictures on the FAQ page.

About 1/2 way down the page in the FAQs is a pic of the diffrent type extractors and an ejector , this will show you which you have , as far as popping open it sounds like you are not getting a good latch engaugement , take a candle and smoke the latch on the barrel , close the action a time or two then look at the latch to see how much area is wiped clean .

It should be even across the latch shelf and at least 1/8" up on the shelf .

Thanks I looked at the pictures and I do have the extractor model.  ( I'm simple as a creek minnow) ha ha.  I am just getting into the Handis and so far am really enjoying this.  I am going to try the candle and see what I can come up with.  It already sounds better when I snap it toghether.  Thanks
